Malaria
Angola is definitely a high risk area and many people contract malaria many times over.
The best advice is to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, particularly at dawn and dusk. Always cover bare skin with clothing and use mosquito repellent.
Take malaria prophylaxis medication.  Remember Angola is in a chloroquine resistant area of Africa and therefore a much stronger medication needs to be used to combat contracting malaria, so consult your doctor for advice on which would be the best medications to take.
Should you suffer flu-like symptoms have a blood test and get treatment quickly.

Medication
All necessary medication should be brought with you, as it is not always available.

HIV/AIDS
Precautions should always be used as risks are high and not taking the threat seriously could result in fatal consequences.

Immunization
The Angolan authorities only require a yellow fever certificate. However, it is strongly recommended that the following additional immunizations are considered:

Hepatitis A & B, Polio, Tetanus, Typhoid, Meningitis

Intestinal Infections
To avoid contracting this always remember the following:

Beverages

Do not drink:

Tap water, use it to brush your teeth or open your mouth when showering.

Unpasteurized milk

Water or use ice in Hotels, and Restaurants unless you are sure it is safe, bottled water

Food

Do not eat:
Raw fruits and veggies that you have not peeled first or which have broken skins.

lettuce in salads if it has not first been treated.

Raw or rare meats, poultry or shellfish

Other tips to ensure good health

Always sterilise fruit and veggies for at least 10 minutes in a Milton solution

Eat well-cooked food while it is still hot

Do not swim in contaminated water

Wash your hands after touching money or after contact with other people and before eating

Keep flies off your food, as they are carriers of disease.

Medical Care

The health and medical facilities are inadequate to deal with serious illness and cases like this should be referred back to South Africa.
Primary care for basic and simple condition should be obtained from reliable sources.
Many private clinics and hospitals can provide consultations, administer first aid and treat common ailments.
Few medical personnel speak English.
